Does your video have a purpose?

5/21/2014

I've graded a few projects recently that left me asking the question, "What's the point?"  When this happens, the producers are usually thinking, "Hurry!  The deadline is Friday!  Let's make a video," when they should be asking, "What would be a good story to tell, and how can we tell it in the time we have left?"

Many of us lean toward sloppy work as we approach the end of the year, so I'll keep showing you good films as we produce them, but don't skimp on content as we prepare to grade our final videos on May 29th and 30th.  Finish strong, and give us something worth watching.

ONE TECHNICAL NOTE

Many of us are using six, seven or eight different music tracks in our videos, with some of them changing every single shot.  This makes for a choppy final product.

In nearly all cases, you'll want to keep the same background music unless you change moods drastically.  If I notice that you're doing this, I may ask you to fix it.  If you tell me you can't think of any other way to edit your video, other than how I've asked you not to do it, it might cost you points.  Be flexible.
